Ov Lustra -Tempestas - CD/Digital (Black Lion Records )
From my current home of Arizona comes Ov Lustra. This is very much an epic symphonic Black metal force. The sinister and grim vocals mixed with the melodic and blistering Blackened death and symphonic prog elements work so well this is like a cross of Dimmu borgir, Cradle of Filth, Dismal Euphony and Dawn all at the same time. It's a UK/ Scandinavian Black metal field day. Ov Lustra has that clean Digital yet cold and Atmospheric as fuck production. Band like this give me chills listening esp with those choir like chorus vocal moments. We have one ultra talented unit in front of us and I look to more from this band on the rise.
Ruptured World - Archeoplanetary-CD/Digital ( Cryo Chamber )
This is another journey of early twentieth century radio journal mixed with odd tape loops, dark ambient soundscapes and haunting drifts and minimalist drones. Hands down one of the more unique and interesting experimental music releases I've heard in sometime. That chilling simple piano is drawing me in more and more. At times Ruptured World sounds like a scientific journey with a post Industrial backdrop. You are never sure if the album is sorrowful or hopeful as it crosses both boundaries so often. Stunning in its minimalist performance is where I think I will rest with this review. Go forth and live vicariously with Ruptured world..
The meads of asphodel - Running out of time doing nothing -CD/Digital/ LP ( Godreah )
Were to being with a band like The meads of asphodel. We are mixing Black and Doom metal with Jazz, Electronics, Folk, Symphonic, Prog and Pop moments. Its Ulver, When, Celtic Frost, Emperor, Fleurety, Arcturus and Code and DHG all at the same time. The closest two bands are Sigh and Bogus Blimp I could even begin to help with explaining what the hell is going on here. The meads of asphodel are just wonderfully bizarre and over the top. You will either Worship this are leave so puzzled you may want stop being so adventurous. There are some very Bal Sagoth moments and surf rock snuck in from time to time as well. I fucking love this.. Your turn to decide....
