Extremity comes in all ideals, thoughts and expressions .... Maybe not .....

HIEMIS- Thule- Tape/ Digital ( Gradual Hate Records )

Thule came out in April so the 40 copies of the tape may be no more but the digital release lives on and should be checked out by those that love  Ethno inspired Dark Ambient meets Musique Konkret styles of the experimental arts. This has a fantasy/ possible history lore to it as it is inspired by Atlantis .  There are elements of  Drone and Field recordings going on through out this album as well.  I swear I hear a theremin from time to time in HIEMIS creation here. You do get that other worldly tone from Thule. I can feel it like you are traveling deep in the dark oceans and oceanic caves hunting and searching for something you know to be there and you just don't know why?. If you are a fan of the dark side of experimental art without it getting noisy and violent then yes yes yes check it out . You will not be disappointed I promise you that .

Pinkish Black- Concept Unification- CD/ Digital/ LP ( Relapse Records )

I will say I want to call them weirdo rocker and that is a term of endearment as this duo out of TX mix elements of Trippy Space rock, Doom, Drone, Post Punk and Kraut rock into something that is like if Hawkwind and Electric Wizard joined forces and fell in love of early Genesis and Yes..  I know how fucked up this sounds but these warm fuzzy out tones, heavy synths, 70's prog inspired vocals and off kilter drums really are something more interesting as I listen to Concept Unification track by track. I thought I was going to hate this and I'm really digging it . There is a lot in common with Modern Opeth, Amorphis and Katatonia  as I dig deeper under the layers of just wonderfully freaky bizarre soundtrack moments going on through out this album. This could almost be a soundtrack of a low budget Sci Fi or Fantasy movie of the earlier 80's. The vocals are just so laid back and slightly off in a good way. Pinkish Black remind me very much of what Kayo Dot is doing now or when Mike Patton goes very avant on his solo material and not just noise. Progressive lounge ???  I may have just coined a thing. Anyway this maybe your thing too.. Explore and see.... For fans of labels like Jester Records, Svart, The Flenser,  Exile on Mainstream and Ektro Records

Archaic Decapitator - The Apothecary- Digital/ CD ( Self Release)

Ok so I'm a bit behind but hey you're getting press in July not April. I will say that this metal unit from  CT. Is a strong mix of  Melodic Blackened Death I would say if falls somewhere between bands like like  Dark Tranquility and Dark Funeral with is going on through out the album. Yes that Scandinavian vibe is very strong . I would say the more orchestral or symphonic moments remind me of Dimmu Borgir or Mid Period Emperor . The really hover over Death and Black metal in that progressive not Tech way. Archaic Decapitator love to add that Viking/ Folk vibe in in the way Borknagar and Thryfing do but still keeping it active, aggressive and always metal.  You have really created an impressive extreme metal release that makes you look forward to the next track and never does it get boring or you looking to the next album you going to check out or relive. These guys are talented as all get out and it shows with the complex arrangements and interesting way the lay out the songs. almost a perfect balance of synths, guitars and the vocals are never buried I thing I love the most . Your turn to listen now .

Blackwater Commotion - Strike One- CD/ Digital ( Concorde Music )

So KIX, Dirty Looks, Rhino Bucket have done this all long before you and it's ugly head comes out of the 70's again . Someone has way to much love for AC/DC and just said there can never be enough hard rock with those dirty raspy vocals. I need to go no further in review . You want a new AC/DC in 2019 this time from Finland welcome to Blackwater Commotion.

The Rite -The Brocken Fires -MLP/MCD/ DIGITAL ( Iron Bonehead )

Have any or do any of you follow the label Iron Bonehead there is a theme for this label they love to mix old school dirty thrash, black and punk into all they release . There need to be an ugly retro extreme metal and punk sickness to it all and with The Rite this is just a mix of all three this is  nasty blackened thrash with a good does of old school metal and punk through in for good measure . This is something you should have heard in late 80's early 90's that when you when to the metal club was more on the taboo side and they would have patches for the denim jacket you wore with friend not out with parents.  Sinister and grim are two things I would say . I gives me the same feeling the 1st time I listened to Celtic Frost, Venom or Bathory... Every generation needs a band like  The Rite so you can cross over to the dark side of the underground and no longer be that radio metal kid . Congrats with The Rite you have finally made it .
