3 cause it feels right...

Haze Mage- Chronicles-CD/Digital ( Grimoire Records)

Music like this to me is just retro for retro sake. If you want more Clutch, The Sword and St Vitus just listen to them. Fuzzed out 70 a heavy rock. The formula  has run its course. At least with thrash and Doom metal the are incorporating interesting ideas. Haze Maze sound like a tribute band.. The sound so much like  Deep purple at times too. They are very long in the tooth to say the least. Even the cover is just feeding on scene to sell records. Retro retro retro yawn....

Bathyum-Rituals of the Damned- CD/Digital ( Heathen Tribes )

A UK One man Black metal experience again nothing ground breaking but the melodies are cold and strong . Yes Bathyum have strong love for Bathory,  Immortal and Darkthrone he adds some Post black elements in at time too to mix it up. This clearly coming from that Atmospheric meets raw punk second wave Black metal. The haunting vocals with clean guitar passages  really adds something to Rituals of the damned.. Very well recorded and arranged too. You can even hear some dead period Mayhem elements throughout the album. BATHYUM uses the past to influence  what he does not clone it.

Obsidian Tongue -Volume III - CD/Digital/LP ( Bindrune Recordings )

Damn it Bindrune stop sending me albums that affect me like this... Obsidian tongue  is Atmospheric Prog Post Blackgaze .. Yes that's a fucking mouthful. Mix Ulver, Ihshan,  Agolloch and Tenhi into musical majesty and wonderment . There are some grim , brutal,  noisy  and bombastic  movements and then the angelic, folky pagan elements come Shining through. Torment and Pleasure  Obsidian tongue you know how to grab the listener and take them on on hell of an adventure. I know of very few bands from Maine. Maybe that isolation is what is needed to make stellar albums like Volume III. The tapestry  of sound and emotion  going on within the release are overwhelming  to say the least. Loving the piano moments as well reminds me of Profanium.. complexity, thinking man's music should not be a dogmatic issue with extreme underground music ever. Next time let's not make it 6 years between albums ok?
