Three hymns for a very electic vision
HORROCIOUS -Depleted Light And The Death Of Uniqueness- Digital/LP/CD ( Osmose Productions )
Epic Blistering Black Death in all its glory is what I have going on from the very begining on this album. I feel elements of the older Blackened ways Immortal, Dimmu Borgir, Marduk and Watain to name a few. There is an ugliness and beauty to an album like this all at the same time . I swear there are some Maniac period Mayhem feels going on here too and " Anthem" period Emperor as well. You get that this record isa sonically dense and power but the guitars are really massive and give you the war machine like vibe. The bombastic bass and drums with those blackened terror vocals just make Horrocious something that will take many listens to grow stale on and with each and every listen you really do hear something new going on. Let the eternal struggle for light and darkness continue on with a band like this and I will keep coming back time and time again.
Kirk Windstein -Dream in Motion- Digital/CD/LP ( Entertainment One )
The Voice and Soul of Crowbar, Guitarist of Down and now on his own with 1st solo album I have ever heard by this NOLA Legend. What Kirk is giving us is a 70's Bluesy heavy rock album with so much passion and soul it truly does make your very heart ache. Kirk's throaty and Heartfelt vocals work so well with what I would call Southern Doom rock meets Bluesy heavy rock. Think Deep Purple, Mountain, Grand Funk Railroad and Rainbow. These are what I keep hearing that with elements of some amazing Southern Rock and Prog of the same time. If you like the Ballads of Crowbar and Down this is going to kick your ass all over till tomorrow. I know I'm going to sound off to say this but the Thrash ballads of the 80's by Testament and Metallica come to mind listening to this as well. Kirk's voice is really something magically and I love to hear this side of his amazing song writting . Please keep this up sir and we need another record like this .
THE COLONY - SMOKE AND MIRRORS- Digital (Self Released)
This is a mix of sounds I was not ready to hear and its working well. Think Daughtry, Inflames, Kill Switch Engage and All That Remains in some odd mix of Pop, Melodic Death, Metalcore, Electronics and Heavy Bluesy Rock. The clean vocals sound like a mix of Daughtry and All that Remains. There are moments where this band gets that full on aggressive Swedish Melo Death vibe to a Tee!!! This album and band came out of no where to me . I know this has been out a few months but that makes it no less impressive and stunning . It's available on all digital platforms -Spotify, Google, Amazon, Itunes etc. Do not miss out on something that is one of the better mixes of melodic and heavy that has come on in years!!!
