You want music with a broad stroke ..... Look no further !!!!
Wictims- Lorn Echoes- Digital/ CD (Slovak Metal Army)
So this Czech 6 piece used to be called Victims and now we have Wictims. This is just what you get from the band's mouth. Blackened Deathcore . Wictims has a catchy groove to them as well as full on Modern Funky Brutality. I like the hardcore side of the band a lot . I think the vocals and the rhythm sections are really what are what you should focus on . There are some think bass and percussive moments and the vocals go from Guttural to Hardcore cries . If you are into meaty Djent/ Deathcore guitars this is going to get you going . When they hit those Jazzy Post Black metal elements it reminds me of Manes, D.H.G. and Havoc Unit. Just fucking listen and you'll see where I'm coming from here. There is a strong love of bands like Meshuggah, Thy Art is Murder and Whitechapel going on through out the album. It's well done, produced so you can hear everything well and at times has a very epic overtone. I also for one like the electronic/industrial feeling that many of the songs are treated with .
The Mystery Of The Bulgarian Voices feat. Lisa Gerrard- Shandai Ya / Stanka- Digital/LP/CD ( Prophecy Productions)
And now onto something in a polar opposite direction and still very very impressive . The Mystery of The Bulgarian Voices is a journey of Folk, World. Ethno Ambient, Neoclassic and Eastern elements all into something you would hear from Dead can Dance ( hey oddly Lisa Gerrard is on this), Vast, Rajna, Arcana and Elend. The layers of folk and pagan vocals of eastern Europe with the instruments as well this is a spell binding adventure to say the least. This almost feels like a more theatrical tour then a band itself and sad to see it too 20 yrs to get here . I hope the next 20 are more fruitful as this is really an extraordinary event in the making. Looks like they are a full time touring choir and musical group now. I really think this would be an amazing event to see and if they ever do hit the U.S. and play I'm hoping to get that chance. In the same way Dead can Dance or Elend are something I would love to see some day. An album you should not miss out on is here and now take the time and fully listen with no distraction as this is worth your time and energy .
Gloom (Slovakia)- Awaken- Digital/ CD ( Slovak Metal Army)
Finland and UK for sure are where the influences come from for this is Gothic/folk inspired Doomy Rock with metal overtones. The bands that come to mind for this are Sentenced, Him, Amorphis, Moonspell and Tiamat. The mix of Deep Goth male vocals and those Operatic and Angelic Female vocals are the focal point with that emotional dark melodic heavy rock. The Synths and Pianos play a major role in this too. I hear so much Evergrey in this band as well. You can really just feel the passion and pain within each and every note of these songs. At times we really have a sound of a time forgotten when the world was much simpler and new and exploring even the most basic of things was really a new find. If you like the darker, more prog side of bands like Anathema, Antimatter and Paradise Lost they have a lot of those feelings coming from the speakers as well. Gloom you make a style of Metallic Goth Rock that really works well and gets stuck in you head and that is all any band can really ask for.
Golden Light -Sacred Colour of the Source of Light- DIGITAL/LP/CD( Iron Bonehead)
The Duo of Golden Light Create some of the most suffocation, claustrophobic , ritualistic inspired barbaric Black metal I have heard in a long time . There is a droning and rumbling low end madness to all of this. With the cries and tormented vocals of those understanding that they now have an eternity to suffer in the subterranean bowels of hell. There is something off about this album and that's what makes you want to listen and see if you can find it. The odd ambient movements and tones just make this an over all difficult but rewarding album to challenge yourself over and over again with. This is one of those Black metal releases that really does border on noise in the way early MZ412, Vond, Mysticum. Sometimes the occult needs to say secretive and foreboding and with Golden Light this is what you get and so much more. I will say as in many other reviews. Golden Light are for a few out there liking to be pushed to the edge with musical experimentation. Welcome to a new level of madness and wonder.

Your Last Wish- Eradicate-Digital ( Self Released )
From Montreal comes Your Last Wish a Proggy, Tech Death band with some very strong Melodeath overtones. If you like Brutality and Complexity in your female fronted Death metal you have clearly come to the right place. It's like Opeth, Arch Enemy, Immortal Bird and Beyond Creation for sure there are some very cool Sci Fi elements to all of this as well. When the Melodic side comes in it's still very Prog and Adventurous in its overall presentation. Your Last Wish is another one of those bands I hope just wanted to do this all on their own and labels should be lining up for a band with this much talent and creativity. Even down to the killer album cover that really shows the various styles of music and arrangements going on throughout the album called Eradicate. Please never call this Djent as it is not in the least. Advanced in Tech and layers Your last wish is Death metal through and through .
pastfive- Detox- Digital/CD (Eclipse Records)
Ok Eclipse this band is all over the fucking place. I swear I hear Don Henley's " Boys of Summer " in the riffs of “Kryptonite". The Swedes known as Past Five are a mix of Metalcore, Pop Punk, Thrash, Arena Rock, Pop and Emo. There are elements of bands like Sunny Day Real estate, Foo Fighters, Face to Face, Everytime I Die, The Dammed Things, Beartooth and Ice nine Kills. The Melodies mixed with those Screamo moments and Thrashy/ Punk riffs are infectious lets just be honest. My least favorite song on the EP “ Close to the exite” is still catchy are all fuck. Past Five know how to mix aggressive, poppy and rocking all into something that is more then impressive. I know this is just an E.P. and it’s a damn shame a full album would have been something I would have much rather enjoyed. If I may end with one thought. The Poppy Metallic side of the band is what really works, focus on that !!!!
