Year of the Cobra- Ash and Dust- Digital /LP/CD ( Prophecy Productions )
Seattle Fuzzed out Bottom heavy Doom rock force with album Engineered and mixed by the mastermind Jack Endino (Skin Yard) and worked on Nirvana, Green River,Tad and Screaming Trees. What the Duo is giving me is a mix of Earth and Ides of Gemini in vibe ands spirit. There is a groove and angelic is a darkened way going on here. Year of the Cobra are infectious to say the least. Love the soft and hypnotic vocals arrangements, the we get those snotty L7 and Babes in Toyland snarls of Amy and those crushing and ethereal basslines. Jon's Drums are were I really get that Earth meets punk vibe going as they are just bombastic and heavy at the right times. I do hear elements of bands like Madder Mortem and Acid King in what is going on here. I'm just going to say this is Sludgy,Grungy, Blues, Dirty , Punkish and wonderful .
Mithridatic -Tetanos Mystique-CD/ Digital (Xenokorp )
Happiness is at times void in the world and with Mithridatic . The hope or positive element has been all but erased.This is Crusty, Ugly and Soaring Blackened Death with a pissed off fury that comes from the very begining of the album and never goes away. There is a heavy groove and complexity all that is being created that I would say adds an extreme Thrash and Hardcore element to the over all sounds of " Tetanos Mystique" I know the title comes from a french Novel but that plays no role in to how I relate or like this release. Mithridatic are oppressive in nature and this is through out what I've hearing. These Frenchmen are Death,Doom, Darkness and Despair all under an extreme music banner.
Blooming Carrions- Sisters in Blooming Flesh- Digital/ LP/CD ( Iron Bonehead )
Well well well a band from Finland playing Death metal and it being dirty, primitive, suffocation and love in punk and grinding extremity. Blooming Carrions three song assualt is just a reason in claiming Finland has Death and Doom metal under a special spell and the crushing heaviness and darkness that they creates just keeps bringing me back to this style over and over again. Blooming Carrions really gets under your skin and digs and digs. There is a very barbaric sound and love going on there and then those occult movements just work so well here. I don't listen to stuff like Blooming Carrions but when I do with bands like Demigod, Krypts, Desecresy I have added another band to the mantle.
Baradj-Hunnar- Digital/CD (Self Released)
Where the hell did Baradj come from This just simpily Blowing my mind its a melodic, heavy, catchy Viking, Folk, Death, Prog metal journey into places bands like Borknagar, Moonsorrow, Enslaved and Fen have come out of.There are some very Gothic and Post metal moments of bands like Katatonia, Russian Circles and Novembre going on . This unit is from the former Russian Federation of Kazan. So many soulful and powerful moments mixed with Delicate acoustic and sweeping arrangements. Waves of Doom metal come through out as well. Baradj just keep allowing the Pagan and Heathen spirits flow through your music and this bands name will be known the world around. Stunning is just to simple of a way to explain what I listening to and you need to take the time to listen and not miss out !!!
Obsequiae-The Palms Of Sorrowed Kings- Digital/LP/CD( 20 Buck Spin )
Tanner Anderson is a musical visionary let's just get that out of the way with Celestiial his Doom metal meets Pagan /Folk undertaking on Bindrune and this project you can just tell he loves good harmonies, sorrow filled journey and his Heathen forefathers . With Obsequiae we move on to a more Folk, Avant and Midevial taste of that extreme metal with a strong melodic and cold blackened overtone. The soaring solos and driving rhythms really just take a band like this to levels most never will. On with the other two releases before this 20 Buck spin has a band that challenges the 21st century for one of the strongest and most impressive metal bands in this decade. The frozen north of Minnesota has never gotting its metallic musical respect better or more honorable I can clearly tell you that . Let the castles and forest whisper its cries and victories through at band like Obsequiae and the world just seems right again.
