Lycus- Tempest-CD/Digital ( 20 Buck spin )

Slow crushing doom very much in that old Peaceville or Avantgarde way.
Do you like early Anathema, Unholy, Dolorian, My dying bride and Saturnus. This is were the root of all Lycus formed. We have a very almost symphonic and gothic overtone mix with funeral doom and Doom /Death.
The hypnotic and slow riffing just makes the chanting and guttural vocals all the more majestic. There is a lot in common here with a band called Morgion. I hear many similar ideals in both bands. Also with Novembers Doom. Anyway reguardless of what I say this is a stellar Doom release and one not to miss.

Hopeajarvi- S/T- vinyl/ Digital (Ektro )

Post punk and very left field indie rock is what we have going on here.
If you into bands like Polvo, Slint, Lungfish and The Clash you will fall on love with Hopeajarvi. There is that very open loose string DC post hardcore sound going on at times if Fugazi pr Jawbox were mixed with Soul asylum and Replacements this is almost to the note it would sound like. HOPEAJARVI IS THE PIXIES OF 2013!! finally that is what I hear and its taken me 2 full listens to hear that.

Toad- Endless Night- CD/Digital ( Comfort Point )

Toad is something of a mash up of sounds this project out of the desert of Arizona is part indie punk, post hardcore and black and roll. They cross the lines were bands like Saytricon, Darkthrone and Integrety are all hovering bit never really come to one focal point. There are also Bathory and Celtic frost vibes through out the release. 90's death thrash moment with bands like Sodom and Testament comes shining through is many of the riffs as well. Remember whem black metal wanted to merge with punk rock well Toad is clearly that merging and done just wonderfully. Get this.....

Mammouth Grinder- Underworlds- CD/Digital ( 20 Buck spin )

Thrash, Death, Grind and Sludgecore these are the sounds that come from the massive arsenal of the band named Mammoth grinder. If Napalm death and Entombed met up Brutal truth you would had this band years ago . The punk rock elements are strong in this band as well. Many of the bands in this review edition are remembering their past and adding a fresh top coat to what was done well. The deep low dirty guitar and bass lines really make them a band to watch and question why relapse let them go. It's a great
pick up for 20 Buck spin none the less. Long live the power of the distorted noise filled metallic riff.....
