Sorrow, Bliss and Nightmares all come from same place
Tides of Sulfur Paralysis of Reason- CD/ Digital/LP ( Sludgelord Records/APF Records /Astral Noize Records)
The Welshmen are making me smile here. Tides of Sulfur are very much a crusty black grinding/Sludge force. Thier wall of sonic aggression comes full in from that Punk and Hardcore realm with some amazing Crust . I hear so much in bands like Buzzoven, Cavity , His hero is gone and even stuff like Tragedy and Drop Dead going on here . Love that buzz saw guitar and ripped throat vocals approach . This is very much what you got on labels like Pesimester, Slam a ham and Bacteria Sour back in the day. I Know tha Tides of Sulfur have several releases and now I need to go back and check them out . Dirgy ,Dirty and hardcore as fuck that is where I'm leaving this review at ... Mmmmm nasty heavy noisy goodness all around here .
Shades of Deep Water -Death's Threshold - CD/ Digital/ LP ( Dunkelheit Produktionen )
One man is creating this and I alway's say this is going to success of massive failure. Especially when we get into the Funeral and Goth Doom terrorities. Doom again holds a very special place for me as its the music i still create and love the most in the world with Avant or Experimental metal. Shades of Deep Water is created by some one named J.H. This Finish musical creator has that Doom spirit and it has a fully sorrowful and distant sound that good Doom/Death and Funeral Doom has as well as that Gothic overtone that is needed. I hear very much in the vein of My Dying Bride, Officium Triste, Mournful Congregation and Shape of Despair and well as mixing in elements of Dolorian and Paradise Lost is going on. There are some very somber and low to mid tempo Doom with those ultra low vocals . The orchestal movements really make it shine as well. Finland is really the land for amazing Doom period and Shades of Deep water are keeping that tradition going for over a decade and this being the 1st proper label release Dunkelheit is done a wonderful thing to get this band a wider audience. 4 songs over 40 minutes!!! Long live Doom metal and this stunning album.

LVCIFYRE- Sacrament- CD/ Digital/LP (Dark Descent Records)
UK Black/Death force on the mighty Dark Descent. This is a full on in your face release without a second doubt. Immolation and early Morbid Angel come to mind when listening to this but there are some very Incantation and The Chasm feelings coming out strong I would even say they love Hypocrisy and Dissection much of this album. This is one heavy slower pissed off Death metal release with those Vital Remains Black metal/ Occult elements. I just really going to go in circles as this is an epic Black Death band that gave us 20+ minutes to just long for more . Next time please just make this a full length as it's just too short form an extreme metal album this cool , interesting and just down right Great !!! I truly love the strongly reverbed Guitars and Vocals they work so well with that icy Blackened Death metal production. Drummer in Lucifyre is possessed I swear it with the power and complexity of that playing. Sometime a great death metal album can really be all you need and with " Sacrament " you got it ..
Cold Black River- Tales of Death and the Devil_CD/ Digital (Self Released)
Desert and Fuzzy out Heavy Rock meets Doom filled journey is what I hearing . If you are a fan of Kyuss, Monster Magnet, St Vitus, Atomic Bitchwax, Clutch and C.O.C this is going to be something right up your alley . The bluesy soul of this beast is what is really going to make this shine for me. Welcome to 70/80's ProtoDoom meets Fuzzed out Blues rock and I just want to sit listen and get my Iron Butterly and Blue Cheer on. This is not the Sabbath side of it the love ti jam out on this album .Cold Black river i not really metal but could play with metal bands all day and fit right in . This will be a shorter review but I've said all thats needed to be said . Check them out
Driving Slow Motion- Arda- CD/Digital/LP (Self Released )
Dreamy and ethereal Post Rock meets Avantgarde sounds are really want I'm getting from here. Driving Slow Motion give you a spacial otherwordly side to this style. It's almost like Space Rock, Art Rock, Prog and Shoegaze soundscapes all got into post rock and made it's own sub sub sub genre that will expand and explore sounds for those that find their way to this band. I really love it . It's stuff you would hear on K-Scope, Handmade Birds, Constellation or even Translation Loss. This indie spirit in Post rock is really the next evolution of bands like Mogwai and Caspian .. Don't get me wrong there are some very powerful guitars and epic songs going on here but over all it's still very much that Shoegaze meets Dream pop side of the band even when aggressive that really makes "Arda" the most interesting to listen too. Finally there is an electro side to this as well and that is where all the pieces come together . I fully understand this will not be for everyone but those that find it this will be an album 10 yrs from now you will come back too and in the end is that not what any band can ask for ??
