Forward thoughts in a metallic Landscape begins now
Kull- Exile- CD/ Digital (Black Lion Records)
So the question posed here what do you get when 4/5 of Bal Sagoth Reforms with out the Voice of Byron . You fucking get Bal Sagoth as the heart and sole are there and musically its all intact the Maulding brothers have come back with a nother Fantasy/ Sci Fi classic and on to the difference Vocalist Tarkan Alp . I would say at times he sounds like Byron and that is impressive but the time you hear a more Emperor or Dimmu Borgir Style in the vocals is when my head turned . I would say Tarkan at time as a more Death metal and Punk vocal style at times and this is where Kull is very interesting to say the least . I would say were Bal Sagoth was more avant that Kull is leaning more prog with synths and arrangements. The spoken parts sound like Byron is still there. There is a more early Bal Sagoth vibe again too were the Black and Punk sides come it . Kull album is mind blowing to say the least and this is an epic anthem for extreme and prog Death metal . I wil end with I'm so glad to get the next chapterin the Maudlings Brothers sagas as this is as good as " Black Moon Broods" and " Starfire Burning" by Bal sagoth. Check them out and be in awe.
Dead To A Dying World- Elegy- CD/ Digital/ LP (Profound Lore )
Litany was an album I listened to for 2 years straight a mix of Doom, Goth, Post Rock and Prog metal and now with Elegy we are getting more of the same just in a more Death rock meets Doom style that like to layer in that Epic prog metal over tone. If Sisters of Mercy, Black Sabbath and Monster Magnet had a love child with Melvins and Cathedral I really feel we have the new album. There are some very Death Doom moments as well but Dead to a dying like to play with Hawkwind, Pink floyd sounds and bands like Sabbath Assembly, Ides of Gemini and Thergothon. I even hear Evoken and Dolorian going on here. TGhe Big surprise is elements of bands like Russian Circles, Neurosis and Godspeed you black emeperor. Words are really too hard to explain a band as forward thinking and powerful as this and with each track the layers and fragile meets bombastic ways grow. Profoundm Lore may have one of the albums of the year sitting in front of them and Dead to a dying world maybe be the It band of 2019 for this reviewer...

Vale of Pnath -Accursed - CD/Digital/LP ( Willowtip Records )
So a bit of a tricky moment was a foot here as Vale of Pnath started of with a big of in Industrial Black Death vibe then moved into a very Tech Death movement and now is going into that Symphonic Black Death with electronic elements . Then wants to be a Prog /Tech Band . What if Cradle of Filth , Gorguts, Fleshgod Apocalypse and Ishahn got together and band ... This is really what I'm getting from this . This is a stunning late 90s/ Early 00's Symphonic Tech Black Death release that I know I will be finding new things from each and every listen I take from Vale of Pnath. Willowtip is another one of those labels that is changing the extreme musical underground for the good on each and every release. Bands like this show it doesn't have to be a ground breaking idea in style to kick the shit of it and be a band noticed for making fantastic metal music.

Zohamah -Spreading My Ashes - CD/ Digital ( Redefining Darkness Records )
There are times that you want to use the words massive and powerful and then there are time you want to use words like Epic, Sinister, Bombastic and Stunning and then we have Zohamah that all these words fit and work . The production is like a wall of fuck in a sea of get out of the way. Epic Black Death on levels that you never need to speak of but want to shout from the roof tops and let the world know of a band that mixes Post Black Metal Mid tempo Earache meets Relapse Styled Death metal into something that is either going to give you chills listening to or your just going to ask why is this still on. There is no middle ground for amazing Black Death its always a love/ hate moment. If I was to go on it would just be pointless as you need to experience this kind of music and just become one.

Periphery- IV: HAIL STAN- CD/ Digital/ LP (3 DOT/ Century Media)
Prog, Death, Metalcore, Jazzy, Pop, Melodic Death, Indie Rock and just catchy as fuck is what Periphery is giving us for their own 3 DOT Label through Century Media debut they were on a very Dejent, Metalcore loving label called Summerian before that has many kick ass bands of there own. This is very much if Yes, Devin Townsend, Journey and Haken all mix together into something Heavy , catchy, dark, melodic and just huge in the undertaking. The clean vocals and melodic sides are so strong this time with the sing along choruses and the Deat/ Screamo moments . I don't know what say but they have a lot in common with bands like Beartooth, Holding absence, Meshuggah, Currents and MissmayI.. The complexity and almost orchestral and electronic way this has been presented it more then many minds with understand. This is a extreme Tech/Prog Band at heart that is trying to put many more layers into the mix now to show you all they love. There are some amazing Post Hardcore movements and even sludgy times going on here. All I can is Periphery keep doing it and I will keep coming back for more.
