What do you get when you mix Sludgy Doom mixed with Post Hardcore .. Neurosis, Rosetta, Mouth of the Architect, Melvins, Isis . Yes but what we have here is the 4 piece Swiss force known as Herod.This is a crushing movement of Tech, Power, Fury and Experiments of punishing extreme music with tons of emotion put behind it. Herod is not an easy listen in the same way bands like Meshuggah, Devin Townsend and Dillinger Escape Plan are not but so rewarding in the end. This is a true musical adventure and you will be drained at the end but its so worth it. There are industrial elements like Author & Punisher and Phobos do with Doom and makes this all the better moment by moment. Herod you have found the perfect home in Pelagic as they love the left of center Doom and Post metal oh so much as I. Sombre Dessein maybe one of the most wonderfully complex and challenging Doom/ Post metal albums I have ever heard. I want more more more...

Chrome Waves- A Grief Observed-CD/LP/Digital (Disorder Recordings)
What do you get from members of Abigal Williams, Wolvhammer & Gates of Slumber. You get a Crusty Blackend Post Metal album that goes from Symphonic Blackgaze to Sludgy Death Doom and touches of hardcore all mixed into something as hypnotic as heart stopping in the arrangements and sounds. There are some very ethereal moments that remind me of bands like current Anathema, Tenhi and Swallow the sun. Then without second guess it goes into a post black metal meets Doom vibe and out of nowhere the orchestral themes come in. This is the complexity edition of reviews I guess. You can feel the pain, sorrow, hope and rebirth all at the same time . with the Clean, Guttural, Throaty and Blackened Vocals that are mixed through out this release. You can even heard that Melodic Death metal style coming through at times as well. Chrome Waves is something very unique and glad to have had the moment to take a listen and talk about a band such as this .

Der Rote Milan- Moritat- CD/ Digital/ Limited LP (Unholy Conspiracy Deathwork)
German Metal has a feeling and expression that you just know when it's played and with German Black metal it's even more the case. You get layers of progressive, raw , experimental and gothic tones always in the style and with Der Rote Milan they have that very Nagelfar, Heaven Shall Burn, Secrets of the Moon vibe. Der Rote Milan are on that mission to destroy all in front of them with Skill, Musical fury and Blistering Black metal movements and then mixing in those catchy and dark beautiful moments. This is a full on musical experience and you would be foolish to miss out if you like extreme music with passion and hatred in the mix. We need bands like this so we can see the light and the dark , good and evil and see how they both need to be so balance can exsist!!!

HECATE ENTHRONED-Embrace of the Godless Aeon- CD/Digital/LP ( M-Theory Audio )
Remember when Syphonic Black metal was the center of the metal world bands like Dimmu Borgir, Dismal Euphony, Bal Sagoth, Cradle of Filth, Old Mans Child and Emperor reigned supreme. Well this was another band call Hecate Enthroned from UK that was in the shadows of there big brothers but still making just as impressive music. Well it's been 5 yrs since thier last release and I can tell you they have not missed a beat. This is as majestic , dark, haunting and massive as anything in there career. The mix of Blackened male Cries and Female symphonic and classical elements. You have something brewing in the English extreme metal world again to very much take notice of and wave that Black metal flag again. I here elements of Septic Flesh, Third and the Mortal and Madder Mortem going on here . Most Impressive indeed ...

OTHISMOS -Separazione-Digital ( Self Released )
Well Big surprise this is from Italy being a Noisy, Punk, Grind,Crusty Hardcore album reminding me of a lot of what labels like Slam-a-ham, Pessimester/Theologian, Prank and Amp rep were releasing back in the day. OTHISMOS even have some Post Punk elements of bands like Killing Joke and Gang of Four. This album is fast and noisy as fuck and I could not be happier listening to this . They could be signed to Relapse, 20 Buck Spin or Southern Lord in a minute as they just have that vibe. There are some very sickened melodic moments as well that really work. We need more of this Punk Grind metal in the world glad bands remember the past and mix these sounds into the world with pride and respect. There are even Spaghetti western music elements here. Keep up the music and I'll keep listening...
