<br />Kauan

1.For those, who not heard Kauan before, give us a bit of history about the band...

We started in 2007, as trio, where was me, one more guy guitarist and violin player + few session musicians. We released 3 albums so far and now, in 26 of June will be released our fourth album Kuu..
I don't think, that it's me, who should give a names and styles to Kauan, but only one thing that I can say - from album we losing metal notes and changing it with different methods and instruments, anyway, it's not nessasary, to be be hard and metal same time, you could even more harder without screams and distortion guitars.

2. You are now working with Avantgarde from Italy. All the others were on Bad Moon Man/ Firebox. Why the label change are you happier with the outcome?

Yes, much more happier. All conditions, requirements and ideology of Avantgarde Music is more comfortable for me. We kind of in right place now, before, we was on metal labels and now, trough Avantgarde we opened to bigger auditory.

3. Your Sound has progressed from a more Blackened Metal side to more of a folk/Post Rock/ Neoclassic sound now has the progression been coming all along or was it just something that wanted to be done.

If you mean, did I done this especially - no, it was natural process. No one knows what will be on new album, and will it exists or not, I never making plans in art.

4. Does Kauan perform live or is it something very difficult to present on stage?

Yes, sure, it is. Well, it's not reason to stay home at always. Now i'm seriously thinking about live lineup, and i guess, it will be Ukranian musicians

5. Being from Russia is that a hard place to get exposed to the rest of the world for your music or with the internet age is not an issue?

Yes, internet does everything for musicians, from soft till distribution and popularity. Also, new age killed these stupids who always talking something like: "eeei, i'm living in a small town, that's why my nobody listen my stuff"

6. Do you feel that your more metallic fan base is moving away to a more mature crowd?

Of course, i'm. We all goes mature. And it makes your music more..interesting, maybe. You can show big sorrow by 2 distortion guitars and scream, and in same time, you could show this sorrow by violin, piano, which have much more articulations in notes, so you can show million different colors of one sorrow

7. Is there a running theme on the new album Kuu? There seem to be a very ritualistic/ heathen element to it...

It's very private album. And it will be private for everyone, who will listen it. So i decide to be silent about any conception. Everybody will have their own vision.

8. If you as a band were to explain the sound and style of the band how would you tell the world about the style of the band?

Nothing, it's not me, who should give a names)

9. Will we see any DVD or Video releases from the new album as the music would fit brilliantly to soundtrack or video imagery..

Well, if we'll have gig in Romania this autumn, there should be dvd after that. But about studio video for some ong, i don't think so

10. Whats your thoughts on the New Digital Media age are you for or against it? Do you feel it helps or more hurts the indie artist?

It's lways hard question. Listeners and musicians will give you ifferent answers, but i'm both of them. Hmm.. I'm supports digital media, mainly. Only one thing to remember, never forget your heroes. If you like the band, like album, at least try to support them. You don't wanna buy CD? Buy merch! Not even merch? Donate 1 dollar to label. People should understand that if no one will buy CDs, label don't gonna support a band, which sales are not enough o even back their money for production/process. Band will die, cause it's very important to every band, to rlease their stuff, to show originl sound and original art in booklet e.t.c

11. Do the members of Kauan have other projects they work in or is Kauan the only focus for your musical outlets?

Yes, everyone plays in other bands. For example, drummer plays in band Princess-Never-Smile, they playing trip hop. Bass guitarist is professional player, he have few commercial music projects. Lubov Mushnikova playing violin in government orchestra "Klassika", Alina Roberts also singing in m another project Helngard and in band Inferno, which is mixing their new album, where i'm sound designer.

12. You seem to use Facebook and Myspace for internet sites. Do you ever want to have a proper website or is that not needed in 2011?

I don't think it's so nessasary novadays, maybe just as some visit card.. At least, i like new Alcest web site, maybe someday i'll contact their web designer.

13.  What music inspires Kauan to create the music you do?

There is no music, inspires me) i lisyen too much of genres now, but there almost nothing sbout this kind of music style, where is Kaua right now.

14. Thank you for the time any closing thoughts here?

Wish all the best to your zine. Stay in ambience
