God Seed- I Begin-CD (Indie Recordings)
So Gaahl and King of the Black metal powerhouse Gorgoroth have been polluting the world as God Seed for over 4 yrs now with many amazing performances and a live album but this seems to be their 1st proper album and let me tell you Epic, Extreme and full of Melody and Fury this monster is. With members of Dimmu Borgir,Trelldom and Motorpsycho. God Seed has mixed Black metal with Prog rock, Electronica and Death metal snarling that is so massive it could take down walls fully. The complexity of bands like Arcturus, Code, Enslaved and Saytricon all come shining through with Artist like Edge of Sanity and Hypocrisy for good measure. Do not for one moment think this is not a Black metal release as it is and so much more at the same time. God Seed just know how to mix many sounds into one of the Metallic releases of 2012 !!!!

Von- Satanic Blood-CD (Von Records)
There are a few moments in ones life were you say maybe this is a bit too extreme for the sake of being extreme. With Von they are threading the needle with the raw blackened assault that they present to all of us from the moment go on this album. Satanic Blood gives me the same feeling I got the 1st time I heard Slayer, Venom or even Marduk (Fuck me jesus Demo). These gentlemen are some of the most pissed off twisted fucks I have ever gotten the chance to listen to. It sounds like an old 90's Demo release and its on purpose I know it as nothing sounds this raw and high end unless you wanted it to his you that terrifying feeling . If Satan needs a spokesman then Von is all he will ever need. Being in AZ and not far from them actually the next town away . They are way to close for my own good. THIS IS BLACK METAL!!!!!

Varg- Guten Tag-CD
Ahh a blackened Viking Journey down a river of thrash, death and melodic Gothenburg metal. Varg is just an ass kicking metal force looking to impress you with there guitars Technics thick bass lines ,manic drumming and there sing along vocals hymns. If there is one thing I could say about Varg is some of the songs are just too damn catchy and make me want to board a war ship with a skin of ale and prepare for the mysteries ahead. Napalm this is another in long line of Viking/ Folk metal missions that you have found, signed and delivered to the Heathen folk of the world!!!

Skalmold- Born Loka-CD (Napalm Records)
So what do you get when you mix Symphonic Power metal with Viking metal you get a Icelandic unit called Skalmold and you know what ... Skalmold are one hell of a band. Yes this is an album full of anthems, heathen folk and huge guitars and vocals mixed with synths that just dig under your very skin to make you long for a time when things were much less complex and though hard at the end of the day you knew what you had done was something of value. We need the Honor and Pride bands like Skalmold give us in 2012. Born Loka is an album that lifts the spirits and gives us hope in a very dark time in the world.. Hail Skalmold I hope your brotherhood of Viking metal lasts decades not yrs...

Stagnant Waters- S/T-CD (Adversum Records)
Electronic, Post Black, Drum and Bass, Industrial and Death metal all into a soup of chaos and frenzy that just gives mee full on orgasm... This is the kind of album that I just sit in awe of and wonder where the hell did they come to think of making this . A member of Fleurety and DHG with a collabarator created this and let me tell you If you love releases on Jester, Code666 , Misanthropy and Aethestic Death then this is a most have .. There really isnt much more that can be said other then this is another amazingly unconventional release that uses electronic, metal , jazz and ethnic elements to make a ground breaking release that is in same par as bands like Virus, Solefald, Bogus Blimp and Shining (Norway). Just Sit back and soak it all in as you will never be the same.
Yurei- Night Vision-CD (Adversum Records)
Oh listen to another Norwegian that takes the elements of Prog, Post Rock and Jazz and make a journey of way beyond interesting music. If you like bands like Ved Buen Ende, Hexvessel, When, Early Genesis, Tenhi and Ulver then this is a huge score to your collection. The arrangements of guitar, bass and drums are something that you would hear in full on avant jazz or complex 70s/ 80's Prog rock. If Ishahn was more jazz and mellow I swear his solo releases would sound like this. Virus and VBE have to be proud and the worship level are so high in Yurei its amazing.. Its not metal at all but has such a Post Black metal spirit I almost want to call it this just out of respect. GET THIS OR FAIL AT LIFE....
Aluk Todolo-Occult Rock-CD (The Ajna Offensive)
We all know Post Rock, Black metal and
Drone music have been merging and ebbing and flowing for many years
now with Aluk Todolo we have this all in a instrumental music
format in where bands like Subarachnoid space,Russian Circles,
Pelican, Dolorian, Jesu, Earth and Alcest has all come together to
make an album as sonic as sonic can be, As reverbed filled as a
cavern and doomy as any drone release would ever allow it self to go,
These eight tracks are just down right massive and over the top as
anything Ive heard. Ajna Offensive is always on the bleeding edge of
music an with Aluk Todolo we are no different. I want to see
this band live as they have to be amazing as the mix Fragile, Ear
Bleeding and complexity to a whole new game. With this I close the
door on my reviews this time out just to absorb the waves of aural
beauty from Aluk Todolo!!!
